Nurie: Photo Coloring Book Privacy Policy

This page explains the privacy policy for Nurie: Photo Coloring Book, an app that turns your photos and ukiyo-e prints into pencil line art you color with your finger. There is no account. Line art is made from your photos on your device, and neither your photos nor the line art are sent to us. We do collect anonymous information about how the app is used, in a form that is not linked to you.

1. Photos and Line Art

  • Turning a photo you pick or take into line art happens entirely on your device.
  • Your photos, the line art and pages made from your photos are never sent to our servers. The only thing sent to us is a finished challenge, as described in section 3.
  • Photos are chosen through the iOS photo picker. The app receives only the photo you choose and never asks for permission to read your whole photo library.

2. Permissions

  • Camera: to take a photo and turn it into a coloring page.
  • Add to Photos: to save a finished picture to Photos. This only adds pictures; it does not read your existing photos.
  • Each works only if you allow it in the iOS permission prompt, and you can revoke either at any time in iOS Settings.

3. What Is Stored, and Where

  • Saved pictures (Pro): the line art, your colors, the original photo and the dates. They are kept in the app's own storage and, when iCloud Drive is on, in your own iCloud (Apple's service), so they appear on your iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in with the same Apple ID. They are never sent to us.
  • Your nickname (3 to 16 letters and numbers): it signs your finished pictures. To keep each nickname unique, it is registered with our server together with a random ID made by the app, the app version and the device type (iPhone, iPad or Mac). The nickname and its key are kept in your iCloud Keychain and shared with our other apps (Cube, Jigsaw).
  • Finished challenges: when you finish coloring a challenge (one of the included ukiyo-e prints) and sign it with your nickname, we store on our server, linked to your nickname, which challenge it was (and its version), the colors you painted in each part, the date and time it was finished, the app version, the device type (iPhone, iPad or Mac) and your App Store country or region. This is for app features (such as future events) and is not used for tracking or advertising. If you finish the same page again, the newer one replaces the earlier one. Pages made from your own photos are never sent.
  • Deleting the app removes what is on your device. Pictures kept in iCloud can be deleted from your iCloud storage settings.

4. Sharing

When you share a finished picture, it goes only to the people or apps you choose in the iOS share sheet. Shared pictures carry your nickname as a signature. We never receive what you share.

5. Information We Collect

To improve the app, we collect the following through Firebase Analytics (Google).

  • Usage Data (Product Interaction): which screens are opened, whether line art could be made, how much of a picture was colored, whether it was saved, printed or shared, and so on.
  • Diagnostics (Performance Data): how the app performs, such as how long it took to make the line art.
  • Purchase History: whether Pro was purchased. No transaction ID, price or payment details are sent.
  • None of this is linked to your identity. The purpose is Analytics.
  • The app does not track you, does not request tracking permission through App Tracking Transparency, and shows no advertising.

6. Purchases

The in-app purchase (Nurie Pro) is processed through Apple's App Store (StoreKit). Payment details such as your card number never reach the app or us.

7. Ukiyo-e Images

The ukiyo-e line art included in the app is made from images The Metropolitan Museum of Art has released into the public domain (CC0).

8. Children

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app has no account and never sends your photos to us.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. The updated version takes effect when posted on this page.
